Two girls of Kansuwsa Township in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt have allegedly been defiled by a named police officer stationed at Kansuswa police post.
The two girls, who are aged 16 and 14 years old, have explained to Mafken FM radio in an interview that they were apprehended by police for Loitering around 22:00 hours on the 2nd of July, 2023 and were detained at Kansuswa police post until 02:00 hours of July, 3, 2023.
They have revealed that before being released, they were asked by the officer on duty to sign for their release but before doing that, the officer asked the 16 year old to step outside and remained with the 14-year-old and had canal knowledge of her.
The officer later asked the other girl to return to the enquiries section of the police post and proceeded to defile her as well.
And the mothers to the victims have lamented over the way some officers at Kansuswa police post handled their complaints when they went to report the matter.
Meanwhile, a human rights Centred Civil Society Organisation, Advocacy On Human Development –AOHD- has expressed disappointed over the slow investigations by the police as the incident happened 2 weeks ago.
AOHD Executive Director, Chris Mweemba has wondered why the minors were detained and released at an awkward hour, which he says put the lives of the two juveniles in danger.
He has further appealed to the police to expedite the investigation and to see to it that the suspect is apprehended as his freedom puts the lives of the victims at risk.
