United Party for National Development (UPND), Deputy Information Publicity Secretary Godfrey Kamangu, for has come out in defence of his party’s stance on the recent by-elections held across the country.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken news, Mr. Kamangu addressed concerns raised by opposition parties, including the Socialist Party, which have accused the UPND of manipulating the electoral process and using its power to silence opposition voices.
Mr. Kamangu argued that the by-elections were necessary due to various circumstances, including the resignation of councillors, deaths, and legal issues affecting some elected officials.
He cited the example of fugitive Petauke Lawmaker Emmanuel Banda, who is facing criminal charges and chose to flee from law enforcement, necessitating a by-election.
