Luanshya Copper Mines Accrues Extra Cost Due To Illegal Mining

Management at Luanshya Copper Mines on the Copperbelt Province says it is losing lots of money in its fight against illegal mining.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Mine Robert Kamanga has told Mafken News that illegal mining has become rampant and it’s disturbing the operations at the mine. 

 

Mr. Kamanga has revealed that the mine has been forced to invest more money into its security department in order to curb the vice.

Ghana's illegal mining continues because the rules and reality are  disconnected

He has called on the government to intervene into the matter. Emphasising that illegal mining poses several challenges to the production and copper in that illegal miners lack the expertise and technology to extract copper efficiently leading to wastage and lower overall production.
