The Kitwe City Council is introducing stricter bylaws to penalize individuals who cut down trees without prior approval.

During a recent tree planting exercise, Kitwe Town Clerk Patrick Kambita emphasized that the new regulations are aimed at curbing illegal tree cutting in the district.

Mr Kambita expressed concern over the ongoing destruction of trees, highlighting the detrimental impact it has on the environment.

He added that tree cutting contributes to climate change, which has prompted the Council to introduce these tougher measures to deter offenders.

And Chairperson of the Mwekera Beekeeping Educational Forum Mecha Mwelwa, revealed that the organization has launched a tree tagging initiative to educate citizens on the importance of preserving each tree in the district.
