267 MUFULIRA SCHOOL GIRLS RECEIVES SANITARY PADS

Written by on 7 July 2023

The Mufulira My Home Town Association -MMHTA- has contributed sanitary pads to 267 young girls drawn from Kawama areas in Mufulira district respectively.

This move is under the program called Go-Girl-Go Event which the Association has embarked upon in the district aimed at looking into the menstrual health of young girls especially those in school.

Speaking at the event that was held at Kawama West Primary School, MMHTA Go Girl Go Coordinator, Gertrude Shapi says it is the duty of the association to ensure that young girls are empowered on how to take care of themselves during their menstrual cycle in order for them to stay confident about themselves in their daily lives and concentrate on school work.

And Mufulira District Board Secretary -DEBS- Representative, Sarah Chirwa, who is Mufulira Education Standards Officer for Special Education has applauded MMTHA for this timely project.

Mrs Chirwa has noted that it is elating to have people that feel obliged to plough back to the community for the betterment of the people in Mufulira.

She adds that the move to empower school girls with knowledge on how to effectively manage their menstrual hygiene and stay healthy is cardinal and a life changing benefit.

Meanwhile, a Grade 7 pupil named Catherine Mukuka has thanked the association for the gesture while stating that the sanitary pads given to them will play a critical role for them to stay in school during their monthly cycle.
