Zambia police stray bullet hits 17 year old girl

A 17 year old girl of Chipata City is nursing a gunshot wound at Chipata Central Hospital after accidently being shot at by Zambia Police Officers who were allegedly pursuing a murder suspect.

Gwen Ngoma, a grade 9 pupil at Chipata Day Secondary School was hit by a bullet on the left thigh.

The victims uncle, Daniel Banda has accused the Police of acting in an unprofessional manner and described the officers involved as trigger happy police officers who need to face the law.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Davis Simwanza has since confirmed the incident in a statement availed to Mafken FM radio.

According to Mr. Simwanza, the shooting happened when the police officers were pursuing a suspect in the killing of a 22 year old mobile money booth attendant.
