Zambia Concerned Over Security Concerns Of Zambian Truck Drivers In DRC

Transport and logistics minister Frank Tayali has reiterated Government’s commitment to addressing the security concerns of Zambian truck drivers operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
Mr. Tayali notes that the Zambian drivers operating in the DRC face many challenges from, physical attacks on the drivers, attackers demanding for money, incidences of shooting and looting driver’s belongings, corruption at check points, among others.
In light of this, government has convened an emergency meeting to come up with solutions that address the safety and well-being of the cross border drivers even as they carry out their duties.
Addressing the media when he opened the meeting on the safety and security of truck drivers, Mr. Tayali disclosed that ministers from the Zambian side have on many occasions travelled to the DRC to try and curb this unfortunate situation but to no avail.
He however remains hopeful that through this meeting, solution will be reached that address the situation and a national position will be arrived at.
