Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza has denied allegations of inmate beatings at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility, labelling them as misleading and politically motivated.
In a statement to Mafken news, Mr. Mwanza says the government has prioritized prison reforms under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, focusing on enhancing inmate welfare.
He noted that at Kamfinsa correctional facility improvements have been made, including providing beds for prisoners and ensuring a steady power supply, while describing these efforts as those that align with the President’s commitment to upholding human dignity and institutional accountability.
Mr. Mwanza emphasized that Kamfinsa operates under strict protocols, with convicts receiving visitors only on Sundays and remandees having their own designated visitation schedule.
He cautioned against spreading politically driven misinformation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a humane, secure, and accountable correctional system.
The District Commissioner’s comments follows reports suggesting that jailed Kitwe Pastor Duncan Simuchimba has been badly beaten at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility in Kitwe.
