Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza has strongly condemned a public ceremony where 398 teachers received promotion letters, organized by District Education Board Secretary Christopher Nyungila.
Mr. Mwanza took to social media to express his disapproval, calling the event “unprofessional and unacceptable”.
Mr. Mwanza argued that teacher promotions are confidential matters that should not be publicly displayed.
He questioned Mr. Nyungila’s authority to organize the event, emphasizing that it breached protocol and undermined the teaching service’s professionalism.
He also criticized the manner in which teachers were kneeling and dancing before Mr. Nyungila, claiming he acted outside his mandate.
Notably, the District Commissioner revealed that he was not informed about the ceremony, which was attended by teachers from the district.
He expressed concern that the event may have created unnecessary controversy and raised questions about the promotion criteria.
In response, Mr. Nyungila declined to comment, stating that the matter was beyond his capacity as a civil servant.
