The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says although Zambia can proudly report increased enrolment in schools, the quality of education being delivered paints a troubling picture.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa notes that the inadequate action to decongest overcrowded classrooms and improve teacher-to-learner ratios has reached crisis levels adding that the same is true for computer-to-learner and book-to-learner ratios.

Dr. Chansa has further bemoaned Government’s lack of substantial salary increases and decent housing particularly for rural teachers which he says has made 2024 a profoundly disappointing year for the Teaching Profession among many other unfulfilled promises.

He says as the year ends, there is need for Government to address these critical challenges with urgency and commitment as the education sector cannot thrive without happy, well-supported teachers and adequately resourced schools.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chansa has commended government for the new curriculum set for implementation in January 2025 saying it represents a bold step forward.
