Ndola Woman Drowns In Drainage, Carried Away By Rain Water

A 36-year-old woman has drowned in a drainage at Main Masala Market in Ndola District, following a heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon.
Police Copperbelt Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba tells Mafken News that the incident occurred at around 15:35 hours when the deceased, identified as Liness Mwitwa of Ndeke Township, slipped and fell into the drainage while attempting to cross the road after disembarking from a bus at Masala bus station.
Mr Mweemba reveals that she was reportedly returning home after visiting Ndola Teaching Hospital as an outpatient.
The Commanding Officer has revealed that upon receiving the report Police engaged the fire brigade adding that the emergency team responded swiftly, retrieving the body along with hospital documents that helped confirm the deceased’s identity.
He has further revealed that the body has been deposited at Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem, and the next of kin has been notified.
