Political activist in the Diaspora Charles Kakula has accused Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, of undermining the role of Interpol in the arrest of fugitive Petauke Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Jay Banda.
Recently during a press briefing on Wednesday, Mr Mwiimbu revealed that Banda was arrested earlier this week in Harare by Zimbabwean police at a flat he had been renting.
The Minister confirmed that Banda would remain in Zimbabwe pending extradition proceedings.
However, Mr Kakula, speaking in a phone interview on Mafken FM’s Express Chitchat Review, questioned the handling of the arrest.
He claimed that if Banda had indeed been apprehended by Zimbabwean authorities, it should have been Interpol that made the announcement, not the Minister.
He also criticized the Minister for what he termed as alarming the nation with potentially misleading information, warning of the risks of false statements, particularly regarding tensions that could arise along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Mr Kakula has written a letter to the Interpol General Secretary to report the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security claiming that the Minister is allegedly Promoting anarchy between the two countries.
