Graves at Chingola Cemetery in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt are reported to have sank due to the heavy downpour the district has been experiencing of late.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken news, a concerned resident Mark Kaira has lamented over the current situation at the graveyard.
Mr. Kaira says burial sites need to be respected unlike what is happening were graves have sank and nobody seems to pay attention.
He has noted the need for surviving family members to develop a habit of visiting grave sites especially during the rainy season to ensure that the graves are well maintained as a show of respect for their departed.
Meanwhile, Twatasha Ward Councillor Felix Mwalumuna has described the situation as a natural occurrence.
Mr. Mwalumuna stated that, mostly graves do sink if the soil is not well compacted at the time of burying.
The Civic leader has however assured members of the public that, a plan to inform family members of the departed will be done so that they can visit the site.
