Kitwe District Health Director Francis Liywali has disclosed that the district recorded 110 maternal deaths over the past three years, with an average of 30 women dying annually during childbirth.
Dr. Liywali described the situation as a significant concern requiring urgent attention.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting in Kitwe, Network for Faith-Based Organisations (CNFO) Coordinator Moses Sampa highlighted the lack of awareness about antenatal care as a contributing factor.
Mr Sampa emphasized the need for increased sensitization efforts to encourage women to seek antenatal services during pregnancy, which he believes could help reduce maternal deaths.
