Government says it has embarked on a number of sensitization projects countrywide to curb the rising incidents of illegal mining.
Minister of mines and minerals development Paul Kabuswe says the Zambia National Service ZNS has been deployed in mining towns to prevent illegal mining as one of the measures.
And as a long term measure, Mr Kabuswe says government is giving out artisanal mining licenses to Zambians and has so far granted over 514 licences in a bid to curb illegal mining.
The minister reiterated government’s stance to do away with illegal mining stating that government remains committed to ensure safe mining in the country.
He was responding to Kasenengwa Member Of Parliament who wanted to find out Government’s plans on ending illegal mining owing to a rise in mine accidents.
