KCM Denies Ownership Of Chingola’s COP 5 Dumpsite

Konkola Copper Mines KCM says Cop 5 dumpsite in Chingola District on the Copperbelt Province at which eight illegal Miners died after its collapse on Tuesday no longer belongs to the Mine. The incident happened around 22: 30 hours after the earth collapsed.

In a statement made available to Mafken News, by KCM Acting General Manager – Corporate Affairs Maurice Sichone explains that the dumpsite was part of KCM’s operations many years ago.

 

Mr Sichone has reaffirmed the company’s commitment of enforcing strict safety and security protocols across all its operational areas to protect the lives of its employees, surrounding communities and company assets.

 

Meanwhile, eight illegal miners have died at the said dumpsite with two surviving the accident.

 

According the family members six of the deceased belong to one family and have appealed to government to help them with funeral costs.
