The Human Rights Commissioner of Zambia, Panic Malawo Chilufya, has emphasized the crucial role parents and guardians play in shaping the lives of children.
She stressed that effective parenting, combined with strong moral guidance, is essential for the positive development of young people.
Speaking to Mafken News following Children’s Rights Week, Ms. Chilufya urged parents to instil good values in their children to help build a better generation.
She also called on stakeholders, including the media, to actively raise awareness about children’s rights, as this would significantly contribute to the protection and promotion of the rights enjoyed by children.
Meanwhile Bishop Christopher Chilomba, Chaplain at the Ministry of Justice in Lusaka has appealed to the church to take a more significant role in promoting children’s rights.
Bishop Chomba encouraged the church to educate its members on how to protect and enhance the rights of children, warning that neglecting this responsibility could jeopardize the future of young people.
The Bishop also proposed the establishment of career centres for children, where respected members of society could impart valuable knowledge and skills to the younger generation.
