The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved ZESCO’s application for emergency tariff adjustments.
The tariff upward adjustments are meant to allow the power utility import sufficient power to cushion the current power deficit in the country.
The decision has been arrived at following ERB’s public hearings in Lusaka and Copperbelt.
And announcing the decision in Lusaka, ERB Board chairperson James Banda said it is impossible to ignore the impact of the drought that has negatively affected the operations of the company.
Mr. Banda said the decision will be in effect for three months after which the performance of ZESCO will be revisited.
