Ten People Die In An Accident At Luili Gold Mine In Mumbwa

Ten people have died in an accident at Luili Gold mine of Nangoma Constituency in Mumbwa. 

Five others remain trapped while another five have been retrieved alive and are nursing injuries at Nangoma Hospital.

Brief facts of the matter are that an unknown number of people went to conduct mining activities at the pit yesterday morning.

Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga Chanda tells Mafken News that during the course of their mining activities, the earth collapsed on them. 

Mrs Chanda adds that Rescue efforts led to the recovery of six miners with injuries, while nine were confirmed dead on the spot. Unfortunately, one of the six injured miners later succumbed to his injuries at Nangoma Mission Hospital.

Meanwhile Nangoma Member Of Parliament Collins Nzovu has revealed that President Hakainde Hichilema has ordered for a massive rescue mission.

The MP who is also minister of water development and sanitation says the Government will do everything possible to provide assistance to the affected families and ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.

He has also urged for calm and cooperation amid rescue operations to ensure those still trapped are rescued and provide aid to the affected.
