Zambia National Association for Saw Millers Secretary General Derrick Chilatu, has expressed concerns over the current economic climate and persistent load shedding, which he describes as a “double punch” to the timber sector.
In an interview with Mafken News, Mr. Chilatu highlighted that ongoing power outages are severely disrupting saw mill operations, exacerbating an already critical timber shortage.
He emphasized that the energy crisis is detrimental to the sector, forcing saw millers to incur daily losses.
The association is urging relevant authorities to address these challenges to ensure the sustainability of the timber industry.
