The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has condemned the extended detention of three youth activists for over 12 days since their arrest.

The activists identified as Jason Mwanza, Chanda Chikwanka and Thomas Zulu were reportedly arrested on August 28, 2024, at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka.

UKA has accused President Hakainde Hichilema of failing to fulfil his promises on living costs, load shedding, and job creation. They also criticize the President for not enforcing his directive for timely bond admissions pointing to recent UN concerns over arbitrary arrests and human rights violations in Zambia.

The Alliance has since called for the immediate release of the detained activists, the resignation of Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba, and the dismissal of Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu.

This is according to a statement issued to Mafken News by UKA Chairperson Communications Jackson Silavwe
