EX MINER DEMANDS FOR INCREASED COMPENSATION PAY AS ANNOUNCED BY GOVERNMENT

Written by on 6 September 2022

An Ex miner in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt has lamented the low minimum monthly pay he has been getting as compensation from Zambia National Building Society-ZNBS-after he was declared redundant by Mopani Copper mines.
On May, 24, 2022, Government through the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board increased the minimum monthly payment for injured workers from 150 Kwacha to 400 Kwacha.
And Labour and Social Minister Brenda Tambatamba says this is meant to meet the expectation of injured workers and end destitution.
Mrs. Tambatamba says the move is also meant to compensate for the increase in cost of living.
But speaking in an interview, Mr. Berternicle Kapango who was found with silicosis has stated that this has not been the case as he has been getting the same K150 despite government increasing the monthly payments for injured workers.
Mr. Kapango has wondered why him alone has been is exempted while others have been getting K400 monthly.
He has since appealed to relevant authorities to quickly come to his aid so that the issue can be rectified.
