Zambia Statistics Agency commended for probing the 9 million voters set figure

Zitukule Consortium has commended Zambia Statistics Agency for providing context to the 2020 Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ set figure of 9 million voters.
Association Executive Director Nicholas Phiri says although this development has come too late, it does validate concerns that the ECZ has insulated itself from stakeholder’s participation in the management of electoral process in Zambia.

And the Zambia Statistics Agency and the electoral commission of Zambia ECZ have gone against each other on the number of eligible voters ahead of the 2021 general elections.
ECZ had targeted to capture 9 million voters which figure has been disputed by ZamStats who are saying ECZ’s figures are false.
According to the agency’s interim statistician General Mulenga Musempa the official figure for eligible voters is 8.4 million.
Mr. Mulenga claims that the commission did not engage them when they announced the figures.
He said this in a press statement made available to Mafken Radio today.
