A Tuberculosis-TB Nurse Linda Sakala has urged patients on TB treatment to adhere to treatment plans to avoid succumbing to severe consequences and ultimately death.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, Sister Linda observes that non-adherence to TB treatment is a key barrier and is one of the most significant obstacles to TB control globally and it has become a major contributing factor for treatment failure.
In commemorating this year’s word TB Day under the theme ‘‘yes we can end TB: Commit invest and Deliver,’’ which falls on March 24, Sister Linda also places of interest the effects that stigma poses on TB treatment and emphasises the importance of comprehensive health education.
The TB Nurse has called for comprehensive health education at treatment sites to be prioritised as well as strengthening of social support structures through patient’s family members and the community at large if the country is to defeat TB.
Meanwhile, one of the TB patients Bernard Musonda who has had an experience with treatment failure has shared his familiarity with Mafken News urging patients to adhere to treatment plans for their own healing purposes.
