UPND Copperbelt Deputy Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Godfrey Kamangu has described as alarming the Mufulira Municipal Council’s decision to withdraw Constituency Development Fund (CDF) sponsorships from over 100 youths admitted to Mopani Central Training Center- MCTC).
Mr. Kamangu says the move contradicts the government’s policy to empower youths through Skills Training Bursaries, leaving vulnerable youths without access to quality training. He has since called on the council to revisit their decision and align it with their previous commitments and government policies.
Mr. Kamangu says the council’s previous allocation of K16 million for Skills Development Bursaries under the 2023 CDF allocation indicates their commitment to supporting youth education.
He says it would therefore be deceptive if Mufulira council would uphold the decision under the pretext that money was not enough because the President had increased the allocation for this year to K36.1 million.
Mr. Kamangu has implored Mufulira Town Clerk to reconsider the decision and Minister of Local Government Garry Nkombo, including Copperbelt Provincial Minister Elisha Matambo to intervene, ensuring the council does not disadvantage the selected beneficiaries.
