The Opposition Citizens First Party has criticized the government’s decision to continue exporting electricity despite the severe power crisis affecting the country.

Party spokesperson Dalitso Tembo argues that the government’s priority should be to address the domestic electricity shortage, which has resulted in more hours of daily load shedding.

Ms. Tembo emphasized that the current energy crisis is a consequence of poor planning, misplaced priorities, and the government’s failure to implement long-term solutions.

She also disputed the Minister of Energy’s claim that electricity exports do not come at the expense of domestic supply, citing the harsh reality of Zambians suffering from an electricity deficit.

Ms. Tembo has urged government to take immediate action to address the power crisis, calling for the suspension of electricity exports until the domestic crisis is resolved, accelerating the integration of alternative energy sources and holding ZESCO accountable for inefficiencies.
