Unknown criminals have again vandalised and stolen ZESCO cables at sub-station 72 of Butondo Township in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt Province.
The development has raised emotions among residents in the area who have complained that the theft of cables at the said sub-station has become frequent causing residents to live in the darkness for days.
Carol Chewe an affected resident has alleged to Mafken News that the situation is getting out of hand because Police are not doing their job professionally.
Another resident Joseph Bwalya has accused ZESCO of not being responsible in safeguarding their property, citing it as a reason why the theft of cables has increased in the area.
The residents have since called on ZESCO and Police to look for a sustainable solution to the problem and ensure that the cables are replaced with aluminium ones.
