Former Economic Front Party National Spokesperson Humphrey Kabwe has expressed concerns about the benefits of foreign investment in Zambia’s mines, advocating instead for local ownership and government control.

Speaking in an interview in Kitwe, Mr. Kabwe believes that foreign investors should supplement local efforts, rather than driving the industry.

Mr. Kabwe pointed to the success of ZCCM’s management of the mines in the past, highlighting the benefits of local control and ownership

He emphasized the need for the government to prioritize local interests and expertise in the mining sector.

Mr. Kabwe also accused the UPND of failing to trust locals and some government officials capable of running the mines, thereby undermining the potential for local ownership and control in the mining industry.
