NAQEZ Welcomes New Education Permanent Secretary, Urges Reforms

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Kelvin Mambwe as the new Permanent Secretary responsible for educational services in the Ministry of Education.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Dr. Aaron Chansa, cautioned Dr. Mambwe against personalizing the Ministry and national matters, instead emphasizing the need for inclusivity, consultation, tolerance, transparency, and nationalism.
Dr. Chansa urged Dr. Mambwe to prioritize implementing the revised curriculum, addressing chronic underfunding of primary schools, and upgrading teachers’ salary scales.
He has also expressed concerns over the outdated 1996 Education Policy and 2011 Education Act, calling for their revision to align with the revised curriculum.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director expects Dr. Mambwe to begin his tenure, by ending the culture of costly workshops within the Ministry and address the monumental challenges facing the education sector.
