The National Union for Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW) is hopeful that ongoing salary negotiations with remaining mines will lead to substantial pay increases for workers.

WE are hoping that the equity partner that Government will select for Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) will not only recapitalize the mines but also ensure job security

Speaking to Mafken News in an interview, NUMAW President Saul Simunjika confirmed that negotiations with Chambishi Copper Smelter and JCHX are expected to conclude in April.

Mr.Simunjika emphasized that mines with high productivity should offer generous pay rises, as workers are the driving force behind their companies’ profits.

He assured NUMAW members that the union will continue to push for better pay, considering the current economic challenges.

Notably, NUMAW has already secured significant pay rises for workers in other mines.
