BoZ Governor Explains Rationale Behind New Banknotes

The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has unveiled new banknotes designed around the theme “Our Heritage,” marking a significant shift in the country’s currency system.
BOZ Governor Denny Kalyalya explained that the new notes are part of a strategic move to transition from old high-denomination notes to medium-value ones.
Dr. Kalyalya revealed that the BOZ Board approved the move in July 2021.
In addition to the updated design, the new banknotes incorporate tactile elements, which assist visually impaired individuals in identifying different denominations.
He further revealed that the sizes of the notes also increase progressively with the value, making them more distinguishable.
