Former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Bishop Edward Chomba, has expressed disappointment over the continued struggle of rural communities to access clean water and sanitation.
In an interview on Political 360 on Mafken radio, Dr. Chomba noted that despite efforts to secure funding for water supply and sanitation projects, communities in Chililabombwe, Chingola, and Mufurila remain without access to these basic necessities four years after funding was allocated.
Dr. Chomba emphasized the importance of access to clean water in preventing diseases like cholera and typhoid.
He further criticized the reliance on outdated methods for water supply, such as water tanks and bowsers, and called for more modern solutions.
The Kankoyo Constituency 2026 Member of Parliament aspirant also stressed the need for improved solid waste collection, emphasizing the Ministry of Local Government’s responsibility to ensure local authorities provide adequate solid waste management services.
