Mufulira Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Thandiwe Tembo says the district has taken proactive steps to prevent any cholera outbreak in the district citing a range of measures that have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of residents.
In an interview with Mafken FM News, Ms. Tembo says one of the key measures is the intensification of waste collection in markets, the central business district, and residential areas.
The council is also advocating for proper disposal of waste, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment. Additionally, food safety inspections have been increased to prevent the sale of contaminated food.
She says the council is also conducting health education programs to promote food hygiene, solid waste management, and water purification so as to equip residents with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain good health and prevent the spread of the disease.
Furthermore, the council is conducting regular food and water sampling to ensure that residents are not consuming contaminated food and water.
Ms Tembo adds that the Keep Zambia Clean and Green Exercise is among the initiatives aimed at ensuring that the district remains free from cholera and other diseases.
