ZESCO Explains Continued Load-shedding Despite Slight Increase In Water Levels At Kariba

Despite a slight increase in water levels at Lake Kariba, ZESCO has warned that the reservoir’s usable storage remains critically low.

Zesco refutes claims that it has hired a local company to buy and sell  power on its behalf – Zambia: News Diggers!

In a statement availed to Mafken News, ZESCO spokesperson Matongo Maumbi explains that although the rising water level is a positive development, it still falls far short of what is required for sustainable hydropower generation.

 

Mr Maumbi has revealed that the power utility company will still continue with power rationing, urging the public to conserve energy while the company monitors rainfall patterns and water levels.

He has emphasized that while the increase in water levels is encouraging, the reservoir remains insufficient to meet the nation’s electricity demands, and premature increases in generation could further deplete the reservoir.
