Occupational Health and Safety Institute says it is finding it challenging to provide health services to Artisanal Miners because they operate in a disorganised manner.

Institute Chief Executive Officer Martha Chakulimba says the Institute is more than willing to offer its services to artisanal miners commonly known as jerabos in order to create a safe working environment that will help in preventing mine accidents.

The institute has encouraged small scale miners to follow the government’s directive of forming cooperatives in their working places so as to enable the institute provide its services to them and reduce accidents.

Last week another death was recorded in Chingola District after a 30 year old artisanal miner was buried alive at OB 16 dumpsite.
