Traders at Buteko Market in Mufulira District on The Copperbelt Province have called upon Mufulira Municipal Council to open up the shops at the trading area that have remained closed since the market was handed over to them eight months ago.

Speaking to Mafken News, trader Theresa Mulenga expressed concern that the unoccupied shops are limiting the market’s potential.

She emphasized that the large space available could accommodate more businesses, and reopening the shops would create a more vibrant trading environment, benefiting both traders and the local economy.

Another trader, Annie Senge, highlighted that the closed shops have resulted in decreased foot traffic and slower business. She suggested bringing in wholesale suppliers to the market, believing this could attract more customers and boost trade.

In response, Mufulira Municipal Council Town Clerk Kasonde Musongele assured the traders that the shops would be opened soon.
