A Zimbabwean National Identified as Shangirayi Zvinorowa is on the run for stealing 33,000 litres of a mining solvent belonging to Konkola Copper Mines in Chingola.
33000 litres of shellsol a Mining Solvent valued at sixty-four thousand three hundred fifty united states dollars came in a Trojan tanker truck being driven by the said driver and was stolen by the same driver between South Africa and Zambia in chingola and instead delivered water purporting to be Mining Solvent.
The driver conspired with other people unknown as well as some KCM employees not to take samples from the said truck and offered to give them money and before the driver could off load, the police received information from reliable sources.
The police acted swiftly and stopped the KCM employees from off-loading and it was at this time that the driver of the truck escaped after noticing the police presence. Investigations into the matter were instituted and a sampler from MVS Acmael Technology was interviewed.
The Sampler revealed that he was sent by his supervisor to go to Tailings Leach Plant offloading bay to collect samples of the mining solvent and when he reached at the offloading bay, he found two tanker trucks there.
He was then directed by two KCM employees Enias Mulenga who is a senior Met clerk and Nelson Chipango Assistant met clerk not to cut samples from the tanker in question but instead he should get two samples from one tanker.
Copperbelt Police Commanding officer Peacewell Mwemba says the two were apprehended and samples were cut in their presence and taken to Alfred Knight’s laboratory and results came out indicating that it was water not Mining Solvent.
Mr. Mweemba adds that the two were jointly charged and arrested with the subject offence of conspiracy to commit a felony. The two suspects were released on police bond and will appear in court soon.
