Nkana Water Warns Agaisnt Building On Top Of Water And Sewer Lines

A house in Wusakile township, Kitwe District on the Copperbelt, has been demolished after it was discovered that it was built on top of a sewer system network belonging to Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken news, Tenant Agness Chomba expressed shock and disappointment at not being aware that the house was built on a sewer line. 

 

She revealed that spillage from the damaged pipe had caused unsanitary conditions.

 

Concerned resident Kalumba Mwewa stated that community members are often warned but fail to understand the risks.

Meanwhile, Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company Public Relations Manager Bivan Saluseki has warned residents against constructing buildings on top of water and sewer lines. 

 

Saluseki emphasized the importance of adhering to construction laws and regulations, noting that the company has invested heavily in underground infrastructure.
