Constitutional Court Rules ECL Not Eligible To Contest Any Future Elections

Former republican president Edgar Lungu will not recontest the 2026 and any future general elections.
The Constitutional Court has ruled that the former the former republican president is not eligible.
In passing the judgment, the court lamented that Mr. Lungu has previously been elected and held office twice.
Constitutional Court Deputy President Anord Shilimi delivered the judgement that was televised live on various media houses.
And speaking after the judgement, Green Party President Peter Sinkamba said the decision by the courts is an abrogation of the constitution.
Mr. Sinkamba further stated that Mr Lungu will remain the preferred presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections on the Tonse Alliance ticket.
