A total of 127 toll collectors have been affected by the transition of toll operations at Katuba, Manyumbi, and Kafulafuta Toll Gates to the Macro Ocean Investment Consortium (MOIC) this Saturday, November 30, 2024.
In a statement availed to Mafken News, National Road Fund Agency NRFA Public Relations Manakger Alphonsius Hamachila revealed that K70 million has been allocated for redundancy packages to support employees who opted to separate from the agency.
Mr Hamachila explains that of the affected workers, 87 have chosen to join the concessionaire, 23 opted to pursue independent opportunities, and 17 will remain with NRFA and be redeployed to other toll gates across the country.
He further explains that the handover is part of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement for the upgrade of the Lusaka-Ndola Road into a dual carriageway, and that MOIC will assume full management of the toll gates, with collected fees directed into a joint escrow account for road maintenance until the new road is completed.
NRFA has assured motorists of uninterrupted services, noting that current toll tariffs and electronic payment platforms will remain operational.
