The Zambia Police Service Inspector General, Graphel Musamba, has confirmed the arrest of Petauke MP Emmanuel Jay Banda in Harare, Zimbabwe.
In a statement issued to Mafken News, Mr Musamba revealed that on November 19, 2024, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Harare Deputy Officer in Charge, Timothy Chimutanga, informed the Lusaka office that Banda was in their custody.
Mr Chimutanga requested that Zambia expedite the preparation of extradition documents through diplomatic channels. During a preliminary interview, Banda reportedly denied the charges against him, alleging that he was being targeted due to his familial ties with former President Edgar Lungu.
The Inspector General further stated that INTERPOL NCB Harare sought clarification on the charges, which NCB Lusaka promptly provided.
Musamba emphasized that preparations to finalize and send the required documents to INTERPOL NCB Harare are currently underway.
