G&G Bakery In Kitwe Closed For Violating Public Health And Safety Regulations

Kitwe City Council has taken decisive action to close and suspend operations at G&G Bakery, located on Jumbo Drive in Riverside, following a series of inspections that revealed gross violations of Public Health and Safety Standards.

KCC Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti says an initial inspection conducted on 8 October 2024 uncovered several alarming issues among them the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for workers, poor knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices and inadequate sanitary facilities.

Ms. Nakweti says despite receiving recommendations via a letter to address these issues, G&G Bakery had failed to comply leading to the authority to close down the bakery after a follow-up inspection confirmed that none of the recommended measures had been implemented.

The local authority has since stressed the need for owners to prioritize the health and safety of their customers and employees above profits further urging the public to report any businesses operating under unsanitary or unsafe conditions.
