In an interview with Mafken News, Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti explained that the fire brigade received a distress call at 06:40 hours reporting a blaze at a shop attached to a residential house.

Ms Nakweti further explains that upon arrival near the scene, the fire crew encountered resistance from some community members, who threw stones at the fire engine, damaging its windshield and side window.

She explains that as a result, the fire was not contained in time, placing both lives and property in the community at greater risk.

Ms. Nakweti has condemned the attack and called on the public to support emergency responders, emphasizing that such behaviour only delays critical services and endangers the community.
