A Lusaka-based clergy has advised former Republican President Edgar Lungu to withdraw from active politics and assume the role of a statesman.

Rev. Nelson Muhango, overseer of Bumper Harvest Church Ministries, has expressed concern that some individuals close to the former president are reportedly encouraging him to remain politically active, a move he says may tarnish Lungu’s legacy.

Speaking to Mafken News, Rev. Muhango emphasized that Zambia currently lacks a recognized statesman and suggested that Mr Lungu step into that role by retiring from active politics.

He argued that this transition would allow the former Head of Sate Lungu to earn the respect befitting a former head of state and contribute to national unity from a non-partisan position.
