The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Zambia has emphasized the need for joint efforts among stakeholders to eliminate HIV/AIDS infections in children.
UNICEF Country Representative Penelope Campbell highlighted that addressing the issue requires early and sustained treatment for pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV to prevent the transmission of the virus to children.
Ms Campbell made these remarks during the Dissemination of the Zambia Country Action Plan for the Global Alliance to End AIDS in Children by 2030.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, affirmed government’s commitment to the action plan, focusing on bridging critical gaps in preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission.
