Young girls of Kamakonde area in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt are reported to have been abused by truck drivers in their aspirations to gain an education.
The pupils are reported to have been using trucks to travel to Kalulushi District for them to have access to Secondary School education because since independence, the people of Kamakonde have lived without a secondary school.
This will however be a thing of the past, as the construction of Kamakonde Day Secondary School which is a World Bank funded project has commenced.
Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Chrispin Nyungila is elated by the commencement of the works as he reveals that teenage pregnancies among school going children were recorded, as most of the girls traveling to Kalulushi District were allegedly abused by truck drivers.
And Speaking when he inspected the construction site, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the country.
