Government has admitted to some bottlenecks in the disbursing of payments to some beneficiaries on the cash for work program countrywide.

Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary – Administration, Maambo Hamaundu has however attributed the delays to administrative issues noting that money is readily available to fund the program.

Mr. Hamaundu says in Mufulira alone, money has been made available to all constituencies with Kankoyo receiving over K70, 000 for 117 beneficiaries, Kantanshi has K113, 000 targeting 119 beneficiaries while Mufulira central has K118,000 targeting 313 beneficiaries.

Speaking on Mafken FM’s X-press chitchat, Mr. Hamaundu called for further sensitization to ensure that the discrepancies are avoided going forward.

The minister says government remains commitment to empowering citizens especially during the wake of the drought hence the introduction of various emergency programs such as the cash for work program.

And Mufulira Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Thandiwe Tembo revealed that out of the 619 beneficiaries the Cash for Work Program in the district, 118 have experienced issues with their payments bouncing back.

Ms. Tembo noted that 80% of the beneficiaries have successfully received their funds. She attributed the payment delays to slow network issues, which the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) has acknowledged as a contributing factor.
