Beneficiaries of the Cash for Work Program in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt Province are demanding immediate payment from local authorities, reporting a two-month delay since completing their work.

The program, recently introduced by government, aims to provide temporary employment to vulnerable individuals by offering cash wages. Each beneficiary is set to receive K600 after 10 days of work, amounting to K60 per day.

Speaking to Mafken News during a peaceful demonstration at the council premises, one of the beneficiaries, Derrick Jere, expressed frustration over the delay, stating that he expected to be paid immediately after completing his work.

Meanwhile, acting Mufulira Town Clerk Francis Mukesa attributed the delay to network issues being experienced by the bank, there by hindering the payment process.
