The National Action For Quality Education In Zambia NAQEZ is Urging government to implement stringent health measures now to prevent a possible outbreak of cholera in January 2025.
NAQEZ Executive Director Dr. Aaron Chansa recalls that last year’s cholera outbreak disrupted the nation to the extent that schools were forced to close for the most part of term one.
He says the last disruption to the education sector was avoidable and should have not been allowed to happen adding that after 60 years of independence, Zambia should distance itself from preventable diseases such as cholera
Dr. Chansa notes that rather waiting for a reaction to the potential outbreak, government through local authorities should engage with citizens to ensure that all public places are kept clean.
He is of the view that preventing cholera at an early stage like this one will be more economical that employing firefighting tactics early next year.
