Mopani Becomes First Technologically Advanced Mine

Mines and Minerals development Minister Paul Kabuswe has revealed that Mopani copper mines has become the first technologically advanced underground mine.
Mr. Kabuswe says Mopani has also increased employment opportunities from 10,765 employees to 12, 684 employees as of October, 2024.
The minister adds that because of the enhanced technology at Mopani, one is able to make a phone call underground, this has been done to enable supervisors to check in real time what is happening underground.
He has also revealed that the copper production at Mopani has increased from 2.2 million tonnes to 2.8 million tonnes, resonating with Governments vision of production of copper of 3 million tonnes per year.
Delivering a ministerial statement to parliament on the status of the mining sector in the country, Mr. Kabuswe stated that the mining sector is undergoing a significant transformation driven by a series of policy reforms aimed at harnessing the country’s vast mineral resources endowments.
